Fireing pins?

Post by dickaye »

I just read where the original Marlin Ballards had a reversible fireing pin for rim or center fire ammo. How did that work?

The reversable firing pins were only on certain calibers like .32 Long, .38 Long, or .44 Long. I have seen them on some #2's in .44-40 also, but never seen any .44-40 rimffire ammo.
The firing pins are made of flat stock on these models, and have two tips for RF and CF. You pull a screw in the breechblock and turn the pin upside down, then reinstall.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
