Marlin 1894 25-20

Post by Thimbleminded1 »

I just purchased my first Marlin Lever action Rifle. I am trying to find the manufacture date but i am not sure the information i am getting is accurate. The first two numbers on the 6 digit serial number is 18XXXX. From what i see that would be a manufacture date of 1984. However, that does not take into the account it is a 25-20. Can some one assist me with this?
thank you

Thimbleminded1;

You did not state if this Model 1894 is a new model 1894 that started production in 1969, or an old, original Model 1894 that was introduced by Marlin in 1894.
If this is a new Model 1894, then a gun with the first digits 18 would have been produced in 1982, not 1984. ( subtract 18 from 100 = 82 or 1982 )
If this is an old, original Model 1894, then with the first digits being 18x,xxx it could have been shipped from the factory in 1895.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
