Marlin 1893 28" Tapered Barrel

Post by 71fan »

Hello Regnier,

I've been on a 14 year break from levergun collecting. I got pretty busy (and poor) raising three boys. Man I miss this stuff and visiting with the forum experts.

I would like to get whatever information is available in the ledgers about a gun I'm looking at purchasing. Details:
Serial 192995
28" tapered octagon (11/16" at muzzle); correct markings
Full magazine; dovetails in correct locations

Everything looks good on the rifle and it's in decent condition, however, there are faint vise marks on the barrel just ahead of the receiver, so a bit of concern there.

Thanks in advance!

Chad;

Records show it left the factory in late 1899 with a 28 inch octagon barrel. Looks like it was a .38-55 caliber at the time.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.

Thanks! I forgot to include that...it is indeed a 38-55. OK, I think that one is going to be coming home with me. Appreciate the quick response.
