I am replacing breech bolt in 1893. Does it matter what direction the firing pin and extractor pins are driven out? Bottom to top, top to bottom, or doesn't matter. Thanks for helping.

Re: 1893 Breech Bolt Pins
When removing the pins that retain the firing pins and ejector on an 1893 bolt, does it matter which way the pins are driven out. Should they be driven out from the top of the bolt toward the bottom or from the bottom of the bolt toward the top.

Re: 1893 Breech Bolt Pins
They are not tapered, so you can drive them either way. I prefer to turn the bolt upside down as the top is flat, and it lays flat easier during pin removal. I also have a hardwood block with holes drilled in it that I position the block pins over so it gives them a place to go, and keeps them from getting lost. I try not to punch them completely out, as they can be left in a little ways and still remove the parts.
