What ammunition to use for 1881 in 45-70
What factory ammo do folks here use for their marlin 1881 in 45-70? I got hold of some light load 'cowboy action' 45-70 which was quite good but like an idiot I didn't write down, and now can't remember what the manufacturer was.

Eighteenninetytwo;
Try Buffalo Arms for the ammunition

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

I should have asked also - do people shoot smokeless or only black powder cartridges in these things?

I shoot nothing but smokeless in my 1881's, and other BP era Marlins. But I reload so I load all my smokeless loads down to BP levels, and only with cast lead bullets. Smokeless at low pressures, and low velocities are perfectly safe in old guns when using cast lead bullets.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
