1894 caliber?

Post by marlin_1894_mike »

Can anybody tell me the caliber of my dad's 1894, serial# 150456?
It looks like a 24" barrel, manufactured in 1897.
Many thanks.

Marlin_1894_Mike;

According to the old factory records, if your rifle still has it's original barrel, it was shipped from the factory in mid-1897 with a 24 inch round barrel in .44-40 caliber with a half magazine. Your barrel should be stamped 44W on top of the barrel, just in front of the receiver.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
