I have an 1881 that needs to be cleaned.
It does not seem to come apart like the modern models. That is, simply removing the lever does not allow the bolt to slide out.
It looks like I might have to drop the hammer out. There are screws and pins I do not want to ruin, not to mention causing more issues.
Does any body have a good procedure for disassembly and cleaning? I do have an exploded view diagram, but it is not really helpful as far how to take it apart.
thank you

Re: 1881 Dissasemble and clean
If you get into trouble and need new screws hang onto Sammuel Simmons phone and
email. He makes replacement screws for the 1881 and actually does a fine job. He sells on eBay using the following name: Hoxycarman870. His home phone is (870) 219-1270, and his email is: hoxycarman@hotmail.com, I bought a complete set of 1881 screws just in case for my 1881 40-60 early model and he uses tool steel and does a fine job. Good luck, I've disassembled mine and I have disassembly instructions but I'm almost 1,500 miles away from my shop and won't be back for a couple of months. Good luck,
