? Model 1893 25 x 36

Post by PARTSMAN440 »

I think I have a Marlin 1893 that i got from my dad when he died. I cant seem to find a model number. It is chambered in 25x36 M and that is stamped on
the top of the barrel. It has Patent dates of Oct 11 1887,April 2 1889, August 1 1893 on the barrel. It says "Special Smokeless Steel" on the receiver.
Serial #437650
Where would I look to find a model number. I have looked at photo's of model 1893 rifles and it looks like that. The rifle is in very good shape.
Can anybody tell me something about this rifle?
Thanks

Partsman4440;

The fact that this is a .25-36 Marlin caliber gun, which would have been manufactured after 1895 would make this a Model 1893. Gun made this late are all marked on the upper tang, behind the hammer. If there is a tang mounted peep sight, then you would have to remove it to see the model number. Depending upon when it was made, it will be marked "Model 1893" or "Marlin Mod.'93".
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
