Marlin 39 to 39a bolt swap

Post by Orangewelder »

I have a new replacement bolt and need a little help with the swap, the Lever does not close with the 39a bolt, does material need to be filed of of the 39a bolt where the lever contacts it?

Serial # S41**

Hopefully the photo links work!

All those early Marlins were hand fitted. So you'll need to carefully remove material until the lever just closes. Be ure to polish the edge contact surface at the final step so it has less friction, and works nicely. Don't remove too much, or it will end up with excessive headspace.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
