Any help would be appreciated in knowing the year of manufacture and a general value for this .22 Marlin Lever Action rifle with Serial number 8698.

Sounds like it may be a Model 39? Is there a tang sight on the upper tang behind the hammer? If so, then remove the two screws and you'll see a model designation there.
