39A with no letter in SN

Post by claude »

I am new but have read through all the posts on looking up "what do I have". This one confuses me as I have a 39A with the picture below (hopefully posted correctly) of the SN below the lever. No letters are present so where do I go from here? Only 1337

Claude;

It appears to be an early, case-colored Model 39-A, which will make it either a first variation or a second variation of the Model 39-A. The first variation had the old, flat "S" cut pistol grip stock and the second variation had a flat cut pistol grip stock.
If this is an early, first variation, possibly made in late 1939, it would not have a letter prefix as Marlin started using the letter "A" prefix in 1940 on the 39-A and Model 336's. It could be an early 1940 gun, possibly before Marlin started using the letter prefix, too.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.
