General S/N Questions

Post by JCCamp3186 »

New to Forum so if this is not the proper thing to do, please accept my apologies. Trying to document some my firearms and would like to find out manufacturing dates:
39M - s/n 703xxx
336 - s/n 2610xxxx
1894 s/n 2314xxxx
1895 s/n 2204xxxx

Any help - much appreciated.

For future reference, the 3rd post of this section titled "Answer to your question "How old is my gun"" has this information regarding serial numbers.
For now, from 1969 to 1972, Marlin used the first two digits of the serial number to indicate the year of manufacture. Your 39 Mountie with the serial number beginning with 70 was made in 1970.
After 1972, Marlin changed the serial numbering system to subtract the first two digits of the serial number from 100 to determine the year of manufacture. The Model 336 with a serial number starting with 26 was made in 1974 ( i.e. 100 - 26 = 74 or 1974 )
The Model 1894 starting with 23 was made in 1977
The Model 1895 starting with 22 was made in 1978.
That is of course, that the last two guns, the 1894 and 1895 are more current manufactured guns and not those made around the turn of the century of 1900.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.
