1897 nickel engraved
1897 nickel plated, engraved, octagon barrel, made 1903? #268### Straight stock, overall very good condition. Need approx value for estate/disposition. Missing elevator on rear site. Looks like it had swivels for a sling at some time with holes in stock. Barrel look good but dull. Elk or deer head on left side, two deers on right side of receiver. Barrel and tube nickel with engraved barrel. Can post pictures when I get time.

Yes, it is best to post photos of this Model 1897. I know of no engraving pattern with just a deer or elk head on the side. That does not mean that it could have been a special design requested by the person that purchased the gun new. Pictures will tell the tale as to whether it is factory engraved or aftermarket.

That is aftermarket engraving. The engraving does not resemble any of the factory patterns that is usually found on aftermarket engraved guns. Most aftermarket engravers attempt to copy factory patterns in order to pass them off as factory engraved guns.
