Hit_and_Run;

There are several models of lever action Marlin rifles in .32 caliber. The Model 1881 small Frame (.32-40) The Model 1893 (.32-40. & .32 H.P.S.) The Model 1894, 1888 and 1889 (.32-20) and the Model 1892 in .32 Colt caliber.
If the gun has some model marking on the upper tang, then it will not be an 1881, 1888 or 1889. So, that leave the Model 1893, 1894 and 1892.
My guess is the 1892 and the tang stamp for the "8" looks like a 9 and the "9" looks like a 3 to gent you refer to. The pictures will tell.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Or maybe the seller is mixing up models and calibers into one combination! I'm guessing Regnier is correct, and it's likely an 1892 in .32 Long RF/CF.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
