I have recently inherited a Marlin 336 that was originally owned by my grandfather. I believe it was purchased in the 1950's. Serial number J16049.
I am mainly interested in for what caliber it is chambered. I believe it is .35 but want to be sure if possible. Thanks for any help

The "J" serial number prefix indicates your Marlin Model 336 was made in 1952.
In 1952, the Model 336 Carbine was chambered in the .30-30 and .32 Special only. The Model 336-A (rifle) was chambered in the .30-30, .32 Special and the .35 Remington calibers. The caliber should be on the side of the barrel along with the model marking.

Thanks Regnier. I was a able to clean up the barrel a bit more and it is a model RC in .35 Rem. Thanks for the help with the manufacture date.
