I am looking for opinions. What would you replace the rear Buck horn sight with on my 1894 CL 25-20. Not planning on using a scope on it. Explain you choice please. Thanks.

If using it for competition (NRA CLA for example) I would replace it with a short (130 series) MVA Vernier sight. Probably not a Soule and probably not one with a vertical elevation screw.

If solely for hunting or plinking then an original (from ebay) Marbles Flexible. Tang sight.

Replacing with any tang sight may not be an option as the Marlins from this era have the serial number on the top tang. So it would mean drilling holes through the serial number, which is not allowed. Marbles does make a tang sight that uses the stock bolt for one mounting point, and a 2nd hole D&T just ahead that misses the serial number.
Here's one:

Another option if you don't want to add a hole is to change to the Marbles Bullseye rear sight. It has a ring, with an aperture inside and makes a great sight for hunting, or even some more accurate shooting.

Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
