My question is, are the takedown barrels of the model 1893 interchangeable with the receiver? Can a 30/30 barrel and a 32/40 barrel work on the same receiver?
What about a 38/55 and 30/30? Will they interchange? Will the carriers work?

Re: 1893 takedown
Brokenshoes;
All calibers of the Model 1893 will interchange on takedown models. The Model 1895 will also interchange with all calibers. Only the Model 1894 could not interchange with all calibers because the rim sizes. The .25-20 and.32-20 would interchange, and the .38-40 and .44-40 calibers would interchange.
I hope this helps.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Re: 1893 takedown
If you own more than one 1893 takedown, or happened to find a takedown barrel, or complete forearm assembly; they will thread onto your 1893 takedown. BUT...they likely will not index up correctly, nor will they have the correct headspace. Every one was hand fitted, so the chances of any two interchanging and fitting correctly are slim to none!
At one time I owned 1893 takedowns in all the calibers, and some duplicates too. I tried swapping front halves on various receivers and never found any that went on and indexed, and locked up correctly. Some were close, but not close enough to shoot.
Carriers were different for different calibers. Some will interchange, like a .30-30 and a .25-36M. A .38-55 is different to a .32-40, but I've found they often function fine if swapped. But there were 3 carriers made for .38-55, .32-40, and .32 Win. Spl./.30-30/.25-36M. Later on in Model '93 production they made mostly .30-30 and .32 Win Spl., so one carrier was used for both, and other calibers were dropped.
