what defines a 336 Texan?

Post by De1216 »

good day all,
Model 336, 30-30

Marked 336
Straight Stock
20" bbl
Saddle Ring
Serial prefix 69

Had sling swivel stud in butt stock, NOT in the white "bullseye", and a sling mount on mag tube. (Am I correct that sling hardware was never original to the rifles?)

So... this is NOT a Texan since it is only barrel stamped model 336 rather than 336T?

Were there simply a number of 20" barreled rifles made as a straight stocked variant that were not designated Texans by being marked 336T?

If so, is it clear how many of these were made?

De1216;

Your rifle is a "Texan" by definition. At times, Marlin did not use specific roll dies to mark barrels. Roll dies are expensive to make, so generic roll dies were used on models that there was more than one variation.
Your rifle was made in 1969 by serial number and the description, other than the sling swivels fits the "Texan" variation that was made at the time. The "Texan" was not made with sling swivels.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.
