Model 1893 Year 1901

I just acquired a Marlin 1893 30-30 and am looking for some history on it. The serial number is #225282. It has a 26" octagon barrel. Good rifling. It is also a takedown. The year is 1901. It has a peep sight behind the hammer. The interesting part of it is that it has a brass badge emblem on the stock that says US S-T and also a silver star emblem under it. I am interested to find out anything on it but am really interested in what the emblems mean. Also, maybe what it would be worth.
