Marlin 1893 32-40 lightweight rifle

Post by mica2001 »

good morning fellow marlin lovers. I purchased a rifle yesterday that I need help with: tang is marked" model 1893" caliber is marked 32-40
special smokeless steel barrel,20" barrel, half round half octagon, serial 3026xx,shotgun butt plate, carbine front sight,9" forearm, and solid frame..not a takedown. I have looked in brophys book as well as west book...seem as if lightweight should have 20" barrel but also be a takedown, and have a 7 1/2" forearm. the forearm and magazine are the same length. can not find any pictures in any resource matial showing a 9 forearm with short magazine tube and 20" barrel...please help if you can..very nice and interesting find...how do I post a picture?

1893 Lightweights came in both 20" and 18" barrel lengths. Either will have the shorter forearm consistent with a Lightweight. If yours doesn't have the shorter forearm it's simply a "short rifle" and not a Lightweight. The fact it's a solid frame also, adds to it being a Short Rifle, not a Lightweight.
