1948 336 RC Barrel Markings

Another Newbie question
The answer to this is probably just yes but a new observation i just made.
I have a 1948 336 RC and the markings on the left side of the barrel are past the end of the wood. Every Marlin that i have seen, the markings are under the rear sight.
