Model 1894

Post by CC1911 »

New to the forum still trying to figure out the best way to post pics.

I have just acquired a Model 1894 Marlin, appears to be .25 caliber but there are no visible markings, serial number 219xxx.

I would like to find out all I can about this old rifle.... Thanks for reading

Sometimes the caliber marking can be very faint. Check just in front of the receiver on the top of the barrel. Might use a magnifier to help see it!

Sometime in the last 100 or so years someone had a dovetail put in the barrel but I can see a 2 on the muzzle side and an M on the receiver side of the dovetail, the bore measures out to a 25 caliber at the muzzle

Zooming in on your pic I can see where the dovetail is cut over the original caliber stamping. The caliber of you rifle is likely .25-20M (which stands for Marlin) which is the same caliber as .25-20 WCF (Winchester Center Fire).

Apparently the second dovetail was for a scope mount back in the day, still researching that
