old marlin rifil

In 1946 my dad gave me a 30-30 Marlin leaver square bolt he bought it from a second had shop I got it when I was 16 J am now 76 yr old I hav shot many deer and it still works good Here is the info I found on it NEW HAVEN CONN USA EST1870
i wonder how old the gun is?

Rpgreg;

We need more information before we can really tell you anything about your Marlin rifle. The .30-30 cartridge was introduced in early 1895, so it could be that old, but then again, not.
The serial number may help identify the age of your gun, or look for some other markings, like a model marking on the upper tang, behind the hammer. The fact that your rifle has EST. 1870 tends to make it of more recent manufacture, probably around the date you got the gun. There should be some other markings on the side of the barrel that should help. It could have Model 36 on the side of the barrel, or maybe Marlin Model 1936 on the upper tang, behind the hammer.
