Marlin 94 lever action

Post by alhelland »

I've just inherited a Marlin Model 94 lever action and was hoping to get some information on it. It has a number 773 on the bottom of the rifle in front of the action. I was told it is a 44-40 caliber but I cannot find any markings to verify this. on the top of the octagon barrel are 3 patient dates, October 11 1887, April 2 1889 and August 1 1893. Mostly looking for the year of manufacture but any other information on it would be appreciated.

Alhelland;

With a 3 digit serial number, up near the forearm, your Marlin Model '94 should have been made about 1921. There are no records for this era, so we can really only estimate that.
The caliber marking of your gun should be on the top flat of the barrel, just in front of the receiver. If it is a .44-40, then it should be marked either 44W or .44-40.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.
