Firing pin for 1888 44w

Post by ecmarlin »

1888 44W 24" barrel s/n 22528. Hand me down from grandfather, father to me. Have had in my possession for 35 years. Firing pin broke while father was using it. He took it to gunsmith and that is the last time the pin was seen. Shady gunsmith. Denied he took it out and lost it. Have been searching internet on and off for years and also local gun shops. No luck. Is there any possibility a pin could be located or drawing found to have one made? I know it would be costly, but willing to invest to make a shooter. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael

You may see the topic ' New home for a Mod 1888' (2008)
There is a further answer in 2016 to my question, like Yours, to remake a 1888 firing pin.
The answer encloses many photos of 'IT', I think first time on internet.

EcMarlin;

A little information regarding your Marlin Model 1888. The old factory records show it is a .44-40 caliber gun with a 24 inch octagon barrel, shipped in early 1889. Of the 4,814 Model 1888's listed in the records, only 1,727 were listed in the .44 caliber. Most of the Model 1888 had a 24 inch barrel (4,312), and most were octagon in shape (4,548). A total of 3,242 are shown to have shipped in 1889.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
