marlin 39a i have inherited an older 39a, i cannot locate any serial numbers , how can i find out the age of this rifle?

The serial number for earlier Model 39-A's will be located under the lever. There should be either a letter or letters, and they indicate the year of manufacture. Some later Model 39-A's have the serial number stamped on the upper tang, behind the hammer. There is a code to indicate the year of manufacture of those versions. Check around this site to find that information listed.
