45 Gov't Ser#4175

THe gun is in very good shape. Is it worth anymore with a low ser#?
I'm not really a collector. Just own a lot of guns and was wondering about this one.
Thanks, Jim

While a low serial number is a positive quality, it doesn't affect value as much as special order features such as plating or a non-standard barrel length. Condition also weighs heavily in the value area. Yours was made in 1883 and sounds like a very nice rifle!! SW

As the model 1881 goes, the low serial numbers do bring a premium, but only under about 600. Actually your number is early, but not early enough to be a rebated frame, like the first 500 or so were.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
