Post by Don Anderson »

Hi Ray:

Are your referring to a 3/4 tube or shorter than that?

The Sporting Carbines (SC) and the Rifles (A) both have a 3/4 magazine, which held 5 cartridges. The only difference between the two is the rifle has a 24" barrel and the Sporting Carbine has a 20 inch barrel. Otherwise, both are identical. Also, both have pistol grip stocks. The other Marlin that comes to mind is the Marlin "Glenfield" Model G, that was made in 1964 and 1965. Marlin sold the Glenfield line to the mass merchandiers, so they could offer that line at a discounted price. The Glenfield G had a half magazine that held 4 cartridges. These will be more difficult to find as there were only 5930 made, but they're still out there. Quality wise, the Glenfield 30G was the same as the Marlin 336, except for using a birch stock rather than walnut, a plain hard-rubber butt plate without a white line spacer, and a beaded dovetail front sight.
