The shotgun is a Model 49. It is marked model 49 on the tang.
I have a post under Shotguns in this Forum.
My 336 RC made in 1953 has Ballard rifling.
The fore end is the thin profile.
The receiver is not drilled or tapped.

The rifle is an interesting piece. Very few were made with a straight grip and even fewer were Ballard, untapped. If it is in average to good condition you have yourself a real keeper!
Gotta love those old Marlin straight grips.
