With a complete serial number, the old factory records could be checked to verify the original barrel length of your Marlin Model 1893.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The factory letter from Cody will tell you the following:
Model 1893 .30-30 caliber 26 inch octagon barrel Shipped: July, 1903
Now the letter will tell you the complete ship date that I generally do not post for non-members of the Marlin Firearms Collectors Association, Ltd. Members of the Association will always get the complete information listed in the old factory records when the information is requested. A benefit of being a member of the Marlin Firearms Collectors Association, Ltd. established in 1973.

Cody will only tell you what is in the records, which is what I stated in the previous post. From the records, your gun left the factory with a 26 inch octagon barrel. Usually, if the gun was returned to the factory, there is a second ship date, which your serial number does not show.
So, apparently, at some point after it left the factory, the barrel was shortened.
If you are interested in posting photos, go to the section titled "NO LONGER GUEST QUESTIONS" and the very first post by Road King gives the instructions on how to post photos.

I can't see the pictures as Photosucket wont allow me to open them. Since Regnier states the record shows a 26" barrel, it has obviously been modified after it left the factory by some previous owner.
