Post by ggkjr » Tue May 15, 2018 12:49 pm

I’m trying to date a Marlin Mod 93 short rifle. It has a 20” 1/2 rd Oct Special Smokeless Steel barrel. Case Hardened receiver Marlin Safety, cal 30-30, Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven Ct. USA Serial# lower tang A1651, steel butt plate, receiver not drilled and tapped. Thanks for any info

You do not say where the serial number is located, and it makes a difference. If the "A" prefix serial number located up by the forearm, then your Marlin Model '93 would have been made in 1916. The Marlin Firearms Co. barrel marking would tend to make it made in this time frame.
If the serial number is located under the lever, then the rifle was made sometime after 1921, but prior to 1935. Guns made in this time frame usually have a Marlin Firearms Corporation barrel marking.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there be no warning shot!
