Problems with feed on Marlin 88

The cartridge following the one going into the chamber is being hit by the bolt coming forward, I was wondering if it is the cartridge cut off, it still work up and down when the bolt is worked back and the tab on it is still intact, does this cartridge following the one going into the chamber need to be in position where the bolt will strike it?

Solved my problem wioth new cartridge cutoff, the old one had worn badly on the tab and the spring steel had weakened on the tension lever.

Howdy, Only 4 years late but am currently looking for same cartridge cut-off, not an easy find today.
