Post by S.B. »

This has probably been asked before but, what years were these made? Also, I would appreciate any and all pictures, please? Thanks

Can't help with pictures, but heres the info:
Here's the data from Marlin records for production runs on the Mounties.

My info indicates that the Mounties were cataloged as 39AM in 1954-57. So the designation 39M was not used until 1958, and 823 were made that year.
Here's the Mountie info by years:
1953-4,335
1954- 58(ballard rifled) 1162(microgroove)
1955- 236(B) 12,766(MG)
1956- 5(B) 9,682(MG)
1957- 1(B) 93(blued trigger) 10,714 (MG)
1958- 9,346 & 823 W/scope
1959- 8,769 & 1,084 w/s
1960- 10,536 & 799 w/s
1961- 7,297 & 663 w/s
1962- 6,532 & 683 w/s
1963- 4,145 & 528 w/s
1964- 8775
1965- 7,992
1966- 6822
1967- 11,759
1968- 10,338
1969- 10,670
1970- 164 CLtd-33,965
1971- 1 Art 2 39M-3824
1972- 4320 39M oct.-450
1973- 4006 39M oct-1689
1974- 5037 39M oct- 1
1975- 5127

Stubbfarmer:

Are you asking for production numbers for the total of a model produced in a given year?

Vall, are those figures JUST for mounties or all 39a's. I hadn't realized they made them straight thru from 53 to 75.

Heres a picture of mine. I forget the vintage but its not nearly new. I believe its from the 70's

Hi I thought these production numbers were very interesting. I thought there may be a place to look at the production numbers for all the 39A models and variations. There was a post on rimfirecentral that said there were only 700 1953 24'' barreled mounties made and these numbers show 4335. Anyone can be an expert on the internet but I have faith in what Don Anderson or marlinman say. Don there was a Mountie 90th anv. in the for sale forum on here a while back that was near you. I ended up with it.
Thanks

Hi Scott:

Happy to hear you picked up a 90th Anniversary Mountie. Hope it was everything you expected. If you do not already have the information, if you give me the number on the top tang, I can tell you the date it was shipped and to whom.

The number Vall gave you of 4335 Mounties in 1953 is correct. These numbers are Marlin factory production numbers given to us by Bob Behn, President of Marlin. The numbers he suppied us with were from 1952 through 1975, and it is broken down by years, A's or M's and carbines, ballard and micro-groove barrels, blued or gold triggers, ADL's and ADL's with scopes, presentations (Brace of a 1,000 39A), Article II's and octagons.

If you are looking for something specific, just ask.

many thanks - Very Helpful Information

Did I just buy a rare 'transition' 1957 39A Mountie?

I just picked up a 39A from a guy walking around at a local trade show.
I knew nothing about Marlins but I thought this guy had something special so I made an impulse buy
(BTW - I brought my 9 year old son along for a father/son outing. The afternoon with him is worth far more than the gun ).
I am hoping my instincts were correct on the rifle purchase.

Did I buy a rare 'transition' 1957 39A Mountie?
- P220XX under lever action plate
- blued trigger (not gold)
- 20" barrel (not longer 24")
- barrel just says, "39A" Microgroove (not stamped mountie, no gold lettering or "golden")
- straight stock (not pistol grip)

PS - I know that 'Rare' does not always mean 'valuable.' What I am after is a wonderful piece of American History from a great American company - not necessarily interested in the money aspect.
