Vermonter71;

Give the first two digits of the serial number. I can only find the Model 25 MB in the 1987 & 1988 Marlin catalogs, and those pictured are not stainless steel. With the first two digits, I might be able to look through some later catalogs to see if it is listed there.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Vermonter71;

The dates of the Model 25MB are correct 1987 & 1988. Your serial number indicates that your receiver was serialized in 1986, which would not be that unusual for Marlin to serialize something then assemble it later.
Now, I searched through many older Marlin catalogs to see when Marlin introduced any model in stainless steel, and the first year for any model in stainless steel was 1993. Several years earlier, Marlin made a few model with nickel plating, but only a few years prior to 1993, like about 1991.
So, it would appear your gun has either been stripped of any original bluing and polished or someone went to the trouble of having it plated in either nickel or chrome. That is about the best information I can give you at this time.

I just picked up a 1974 Glenfield 30A that looks like SS, but was told it is plated. I can't find any evidence that such a rifle was ever offered at that time.
