My buddy has a 39a 3rd model 2nd variation which has the Brass insert in the pistol grip cap.
Question : His is ingreved with a gentlemans name was this done at the factory when the gun
Was ordered or?? This is the first one I have seen or at least noticed. Thanks Slo.

Never seen a factory engraved butt cap? I've seen the pistol grip cap with 3 initials engraved in the bottom done at Marlin. But even those were only 3 initials when I see them.

Sorry Marlinman93 I did mean Pistol Grip Cap. His insert has the guys first and last name. My 73 year old eyes had to use a

Sounds like the right place, and the factory cap. But the paperwork that came with those guns offered only initials if the buyer sent the cap to Marlin. Most owners never sent the caps in, so we see many with nothing on those caps. My guess is someone had the work done outside the factory to a blank cap.
