I have a Marlin Model 1897 made in 1906 and there is no caliber marking on the barrel. I know it is 22 Short, long and long rifle, but is it common to not have the caliber marking on the barrel? The roll mark for Marlin is correct. any comments on it?
Thank you,

That's standard for the model.

Later Model '97's did have the caliber markings. I have a couple of guns made in the 1913 era that have the caliber markings.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
