Firing pin

Post by Teakwood »

Greetings all,
I have a Marlin Model 97 or 1897 lever action .22. After cocking the rifle the firing pin slides forward when I point the barrel towards the floor. The pin does not stay in its firing position. I was told by a gunsmith that I was missing a return spring. Is this the case? If so what does this part look like? I have looked everywhere on the internet but no luck. Does anyone have an answer for me. Thanks everyone.

Teakwood;

The Model 1897/'97 does not have a firing pin spring. When there is a cartridge in the chamber, the firing pin will stay in the ready to fire position and not move forward.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

Thank you for your response. That was a big help. I had no idea it would function that way.
Thanks again,

I'd steer clear of that gunsmith! Obviously doesn't know Marlins well.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
