Marlin Modle number 38 S/N 5649

Post by WalkerE »

I know that my grandfather bought this rifle at a farm sale in 1941, and it's been in the family since. So I know it was made prior to 41 but I have never seen such a low s/n 5649. Can anyone give me a line on how to find out it's age? Please feel free to help me in this project.

WalkerE;

The Marlin Model 38 was made from 1921 to 1930. Without a letter prefix to the serial number, I suspect that your Marlin was made after 1925. There are no records of the Model 38, or any other models after 1906, so we have to speculate on some things.
Does your Model 38 have the Marlin trademark "Bullseye" in the toe of the stock?
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.
