Model 39A question

Post by Antiquebill »

Just looked at a like new 39A yesterday and had a question about it. The barrel is marked Golden 39A, but the trigger is blued. Question is did they make them this way? I thought the Golden name was in reference to the trigger color? The gun is again like new, and doesn't appear to have been worked on or reblued. Thanks for any comments.

AntiqueBill;

The Golden was added to the barrel marking in 1957. It was dropped for a while from 1964 to 1972 when the term was re-instated. In 1982, the gold plated trigger was dropped in favor of a blued trigger. In 1985, Marlin re-instated the gold plated trigger.
You did not state what year the Model 39-A you looked at was made, but it should have been made sometime between 1982 and 1985. Serial numbers will start with 18, 17, or 16.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
