39A date?

Post by mike4569 »

I need a little help. I'm trying to date a Golden 39A. it appears to be pre 70s. The serial # has no letter prefix , its 6810xxxx. cant find any letters on the barrel either. The receiver is blued and the lettering on the barrel is gold.
Thanks

Mike4569;

From 1968 to 1972, Marlin did not use a letter prefix to determine the year of manufacture. Marlin simply used the first two digits of the serial number to indicate the year the gun was made, and in your case, 68 = 1968.
Dealers complained that Marlin was "dating" the inventory, so Marlin changed the system in 1973 to subtract the first two digits from 100 to determine the year a gun was made. i.e.: 100 - 27 = 73 or 1973.
Remington now uses a different system.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.
