Info on 60W

Post by Rastaman57 »

I am new here and am probably asking this to folks that are tired of this quetion but here goes...
I and my granddaughter are restoring a model 60W.
I am researching the history with her and am at a loss for definative answers on the mfg date.
Yes I have poured thru the Big Blue Book to no avail.
I have read the exact same info here as I read there.
The specifics of this rimfire rifle are as follows:

the barrel has roll incribed into the left side; "THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN CT. U.S.A.
MODEL 60W MICRO-GROVE BARREL CAL. 22LR ONLY
The right side of the barrel has the standard warning info.
On the left side of the action opposite the charging/cocking bolt is the number 10514388 .
On the right side of the action is a capital B laying on its side. This letter is hidden when the stock is added.
The stock has the Gold medallian "Safety, Sportsman and Ethics" embedd in it.
Tube feed mag, 21" barrel, Gold plated triger
From what I have been able to gather it is an NRA sponsered edition of the model 60. I belive it called the Friends of the NRA Edition.

Any more info anyone can give will be helpfull in theeducation of aforemention granddaughter and her appreciation of what the greatest grandpa is doing with her, LOL LOL. But seriously any infois always appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I have the same rifle but mine is from '86. Subtract the first 2 digits of your serial number from 100 to get the date of manufacture. I "believe" the W indicates is was sold through WalMart. I have done a couple of modifications to mine and it's a very reliable and accurate rifle.

Thanks for the info.
So far the info I have garnered tels me the W represents the model being a "Friends of the NRA" edition.
With the medalion pressed into the stock.
Using that methode, mine was made in '90.

Thanks again.
