Marlin A1 family
Here are the many variations of the Marlin A1 in it's 10 year life span. 1936 to 1946
Top to bottom:
Early 1st var. A1 with grooved forearm,walnut stock 1936
1st var. A1 with smooth forearm,walnut stock 1937-1938
"Store Brand" A1/Ranger 34A,walnut stock. Note,some Bubba had cut barrel down from 24in to 22in....
"Transition" model A1 featuring "new" non-slip buttplate,side mounted safety,slightly redesigned hardwood stock,steel and plastic trigger guards both used ,approx. 1939-1940-41
2cd var. A1DL, featuring the redesigned hardwood stock with semi-beaver tail forearm,non-slip buttplate,sling swivels,
plastic trigger guard,(note: have seen 2cd var. models with steel trigger guards) side mounted safety.
Production was just after WWII till production end 1946.

Excellent! Mine is the final variation. I really like the 'man-sized' stock. Fits my large frame and hands and my long arms well.

I also have a '46 A1 and really appreciate the substantial stock and weight. I am havering som ejection problems with the spent case stove piping.
