VINTAGE 39A SERIAL NUMBER & POTENTIAL VALUE QUESTIONS

Post by bwflorida »

I have a vintage "barn find" 39A that has a three-digit serial number (7xx with no prefix).

It's completely disassembled and I'm thinking about either trying to sell it as-is (as a project gun), or getting it re-assembled and then selling it.

According to one of the Model Designation posts here, it was manufactured between 1939 and 1945.

MODEL 39A
Similar to Model 39, with case hardened receiver (mfg. 1939-1945), includes 1st and 2nd Models with round barrel.

Is there any way to ID the serial number as a 1st or 2nd Model, and determine a specific month/year of manufacture?

There is some pitting on the barrel and magazine tube, and the finish has been removed from the buttstock.

What is a value range as a "project gun"?

What is a value range re-assembled and in working condition, i.e., not restored, just cleaned up and in working condition?

Any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks!
