What is the difference between a model 39A and a model 39AS?

The 39-AS came out in 1984, and had the new and "improved" cross bolt safety. You know, that little button on the side of the receiver you have to push all the time. The "S" in 39-AS stands for the cross bolt safety in the Model 39's as well as all the other Marlin lever action rifles at the time that received the cross bolt safety.
