DOM of Model 39 Help

Post by chelt75 »

I recently purchased a Model 39 Ocatagon Serial Number 3171 without any prefixes. The gun is in nice shape, I just want to know when it was built. Can some please help me.

One post is enough. You do not need to multiple post to get and answer.

Hi Chelt,
A model 39 without prefix is likely first year production (1922) - could be year after, but not beyond that. I assume it has the correct S shaped pistol grip walnut stock, thin forearm with steel cap, and 24" barrel? It has ballard rifling and a black bakelite buttplate (straight cut to buttstock). How is the condition of the case hardening, or are most of the colors worn to grey? these rifles were commonly very heavily used and show the effects of carrying...
best regards, chrifle
