Skip,
You may hear this pretty often, but it's impossible to judge the value of a collectable gun, sight unseen. You might want to take it to a local dealer for appraisal.

Model 38

The Model 38 was itroduced in 1922 by the Marlin Firearms "Corporation", not company, and was the same as the prewar Model 32 that was made by the Marlin Firearms Company. It is a pump action, take-down .22 caliber rifle that will hold 15 short, 12 long or 10 long-rifle cartridges. It's a solid top. slide action closed-in frame and is 40 inches long and 27 1/2 inches when taken down. It has a black walnut pistol grip butt stock with a hard rubber butt plate that has the Marlin name on it, and a groved forearm. The front sight is ivory bead type and rear sight is the Rocky Mountain flat top V-notch adjustable type.

The company had been sold to the Rockwell Corp. in 1915. They changed the name to the Marlin Arms Company in 1916, and then to Marlin-Rockwell in 1917. Marlin Rockwell, after WWI, then sold it to John Moran, who had been Sales Manager for them. Finally, in 1922, he renamed it the Marlin Firearams Corporation and he went bankrupt in 1924. Frank Kenna purchased it at auction in 1924 and renamed it back to the Marlin Firearms Company, which it still is today. Also, it is still 100% owned by the Kenna family.

That's probably more information than you cared to know!
