Stock for an old 1897

Post by RockinDoubleB »

I'm trying to locate a stock for an old straight grip 1897 .22LR. It has been in the family since just after the turn of the prior century I'm told. Anyway, I want to restock it and find stocks for 1893/1894 but not the 1897 yet.

Can anyone help me:
1. Answer if the 1893/1894 works on the 1897?

2. Source somebody who can supply a stock for the 1897?

Thank you very much.

I believe the tang length/width differs from the 1893/94 to the 1897, so unfortunately that wouldn't be a good choice. The 1893/94 was definitely a heavier weight stock as well, and would require more shaping to mimic the original. You could try Boyd's stocks - they do carry some old Marlin model stocks and are good quality (I have used one on a Model 27 for example). Another option could be to find a Marlin Model 39M or "mountie" straight stock; the 1897 preceeded the model 39 and the tangs may not have changed!?
good luck!

Try Precision Gun Stocks or Treebone Carving.
