Modle 70p miss feed of shells

Just recently I purchased a Marlin modle 70p semi automatic how can I tell how old it is? It has trrouble loading ammunition from the clip It seems to crush the rounds and feed *beep* than one round at as time. Any help will be appreciated.

I would try another clip and go from there.
