Marlin 57 (Sears 46C)

Post by big shrek »

Well, I put my own Sticky to use...and found a Sears 46C, which is actually a Marlin 57 :)

And...I was pawn-shopping today and found a Sears 4x Ted Williams Signature Line scope...for only $10 :)

So here's the current config...

Sears Rifle...Sears Scope...Marlin leather sling.

The only thing left to do to this rifle is pillar-bed it...as I can't think of anything else to do, now.
It's worse than that...he's dead, Jim. You grab his tricorder, I'll get his wallet.

I have a Sears 46C that I bought from the local Sears catalog store in June 1960 for $29.88. My first firearm at the age of 11. Just recently refinished the stock as the finish was nearly all chipped off. It's a little lighter than it was when new but not very much. The scope is a Weaver B4 that I put on in 1961 and cost me around $10 if I remember correctly. Still shoots 1/4" groups at 25 yds with CCI mini-mag HP's.... at least it does when I can still do it!!

WB.... Thank you!! I'm a bit partial to it to say the least. Am happy with the way the refinish job came out. Just plain old True oil finish...6 or 7 coats... the grain still shows. The amazing thing to me is that the accuracy has stayed the same after untold thousands of rounds thru it. It's been my primary gopher gun since I got it. Guess a guy has to get lucky once in a while with a really, really good one!! :D

I've been a lurker for a while, and an avid Marlin fan. I own 2 model 57s and a 336 among others....I know lots of folks hate to dredge up old threads, but I just wondered why noone, HERE, of all places caught the fact that neither of the pictured guns are model 57s...unless Marlin made a clip fed 57 that I'm not aware of. The do both appear to be BEAUTIFUL model 56s however :)

Model 56, not 57.
