I just joined this Marlin forum.
I have a Marlin 989 M2 carbine .22LR that I received as a birthday present in 1966. I haven't fired it in close to 20 years but I'm getting ready to do so soon. It's been in a soft case all this time but shows a little surface rust on the barrel and ramp sight. I'm thinking about having it disassembled, cleaned and lubricated prior to firing it. I would do this myself but I don't know what to look for if any damaging rust exists in the workings of the gun.
